But Did You Say Thank You?

One of the biggest mistakes I see repeatedly is the failure to thank someone for a donation. It hits on several levels. Sometimes it’s a non-response, sometimes it’s just a verbal in the moment, sometimes it’s repeated ‘asks’ with no gratitude in between, or something else along those lines. While most donors don’t give to be thanked, there is still a negative impact when you don’t do it.

Donor burnout is real. Not thanking people while you and others most likely are repeatedly asking them for donations is paving the path to a donor burning out on giving to you. You are living in a world where you are competing for donation dollars. The impression you leave with a donor will impact that donor’s future giving to you. A ‘thank you’ goes a long way to creating a relationship rather than just accepting a transaction.
