The Smallest Details

I read where Coach John Wooden use to include teaching his players how to put on their socks.  That is seriously drilling down to a detailed level.  The man had great success as a coach so there is no disputing his methods.

Success lies in the details.  Often we are looking at the big picture in the form of outcomes and costs and forget that to get to the top you have to establish a solid foundation.  That foundation consist of the details.  Giving an employee the end goal/big picture without the specific metrics it was developed from is setting them, and the company, up for a loss.
